The 'Calm Down' Remix by Rema and Selena Gomez wins Best Afrobeats at the 2023 MTV VMA Awards.

 


.The first Afrobeat artist to win at the prestigious MTV VMAs ceremony is Nigerian Superstar Rema.

The Nigerian artist who was in attendance at the awards event, which just finished, emerged as one of the night's winners at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

The Best Afrobeat's Song winner at the MTV Video Music Awards was the top-charting song "Calm Down Remix" by Rema and Selena Gomez.

Rema's victory makes him the first Afrobeat artist to receive a VMAs plaque, so this turns into a historic occasion.

The Nigerian musician's midtempo hit "Calm Down" debuted a year ago as the second single from his March 2022 debut studio album, Rave & Roses. The seductive, ambient song finds Rema pleading with a young woman at a local club to trust that his intentions are sincere. the track, produced by fellow Nigerian native Andre Vibes, oozes with his signature stutter-step beats.

The "Calm Down" remix is still in first place on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeat Songs chart after reaching a new high of No. 26 this week on the Billboard Hot 100.

The up-and-coming musician was interviewed by Billboard on the creation of his biggest success to far, his plans to give back to Nigeria, and advancing Afrobeat.
