Now, music is not about substance. - Obrafour

Obrafuo, a Ghanaian Award-winning rapper, has expressed concern about the current state of music production.

He claims that, unlike his generation, which was theme-driven, music produced now is beat-driven. Obrafuor believes that this has resulted in the low quality of music produced in recent years. "Our music had substance when we were popular, but nowadays music is beat-driven. Our music was theme-driven; you choose a theme and composed music around it. Reggie Rockstone recorded a song called "y3 bounce wo visa ne ya" about the experience of being bounced at the embassy. Ad3n was all about life, the difficulties we face every day," he told BBC Pidgin.

He went on to say that it takes a lot of research to make him a unique artist among his contemporaries. "After dropping Pae Mu Ka, I wanted to be different from my peers, so I had to dig deep. It implied that I should look into proverbs. If you listen to my song, I don't want you to just dance and leave; I want you to choose something," he explained.
