MoH provides clarification regarding foreign nationals' mandatory health insurance.
The announcement made recently about a mandatory health insurance coverage for visitors who are not Ghanaians has been explained by the Ministry of Health as a suggestion from the National Health Insurance Scheme rather than a government policy. Although the NHIA's proposal aims to facilitate foreign nationals' access to healthcare, a statement from the Ministry, signed by Minister of Health Dr. Okoe Boye, stated that the plan has not been debated or authorized by cabinet.
The statement asked people to ignore false information that could lead them to believe that the policy has been decided upon and how it will be implemented. Noting that before a decision is made, the proposal's execution would be carefully examined and put through the required procedures to determine its benefits for the people of Ghana. According to Graphic Online, foreign nationals visiting Ghana must purchase mandatory health insurance, which can cost anywhere from $45 to $270, in order to be allowed entry.
The program is scheduled to commence on July 1, 2024, according per a story published by Graphic Online.
